Verizon has launched a new official Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone. The update arrives OTA (over-the-air) and it should roll out for all users by the end of this week.
As you know Verizon is usually launching all the new updates in phases, so you might not get the Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware today. However, don’t panic as the update will be delivered for your Galaxy S5 as long as it is running stock Android firmware.
The firmware version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Verizon Galaxy S5 is set to KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANE9 and it brings multiple new changes that should offer you an even better Android environment than before. This is probably the last 4.4.2 firmware that we will see released for the Galaxy S5, as Samsung / Verizon are planning on pushing out the Android 4.4.4 builds in the coming months before Google makes Android L (5.0?) available for everyone.
With Android 4.4.2 KitKat G900VVRU1ANE9 firmware you will get the following changes for your Galaxy S5 Verizon device: Updates for Caller Name ID, Message+ and Cloud applications, support for selecting video app when uploading content to YouTube, Message+ comes with support for TS Closed Captioning, updated Emergency Mdoe, Contact Menu improved, Easy Mode Settings with support for images, Web Search added to S Finder, and more. This new update might seem as a small one, but there are enough changes and tweaked features that will make a difference for your Galaxy S5 Verizon phone.
Some bugs were also fixed: ‘search’ icon has been removed from the Memo app when there is no memo, Favorite ‘Contact’ info background is now much more readable, improved connectivity for streaming music, Samsung Gear Manager stability tweaked, text alert enhancements added for various factory installed car kits, Primary Contacts changed to Emergency Contacts when you’re running the device in Emergency Mode. Also, the Power On password will not be launched every time you complete a voice call or your phone’s screen dims.
Since the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update is being rolled out in phases you might not get your Galaxy S5 Verizon today. You can check for new updates by going to Settings> About Phone and Software Updates section. Hit the ‘check now’ button to see if there are any firmware KitKat files available for download.
When the update arrives you should simply confirm the download process and then wait until your phone completes the installation automatically. Tell us in comments if there are any major changes and in case your Verizon Galaxy S5 is better than it was with the previous KitKat 4.4.2 firmware.
