Apple may have something special to announce during the upcoming September 9th media event, in addition to the iPhone 6 and iWatch, KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo revealed in a note to investors obtained by AppleInsider.
Apparently, Apple may unveil the iPad Air 2 on the same day, a surprising move considering the company has not combined iPhone and iPad announcements before as it’s traditionally focused first on smartphones and then on tablets.
According to Kuo, who has a good track record reporting on unreleased Apple products, the iPad Air 2 will be the only new Apple tablet to see “significant spec upgrades,” which could mean an iPad mini refresh might not be in the works.
The iPad Air 2 should pack an anti-reflective screen coating, full-lamination touch panel, next-gen A8 processor (just like the iPhone 6), a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a new gold color option. A recent report also said the new 9.7-inch iPad will be thinner than the first-gen iPad Air model.
The analyst said a 2014 iPad mini – if released – could also come with fingerprint-reading capabilities.
Recent reports have claimed that Apple might unveil only the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 at its September 9 event and the iWatch, with the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 expected to arrive later this year. As for new iPads, Apple was expected to hold a special even in October to announce new model, but that might not be the case anymore, assuming Kuo’s findings are accurate.
