How to fix your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus after the iOS 8.0.1 update destroys it

Apple just released a brand new software update for its mobile device lineup. If you install it on an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, it will break your phone. That’s right, Apple’s meticulous quality control team allowed iOS 8.0.1 to be released with some of the worst bugs we’ve ever seen; after installing the update on an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, your phone will no longer be able to connect to cellular networks and Touch ID will not work anymore.

Luckily, there’s a relatively easy fix.

Simply connect your phone to iTunes and back up your data. Then, click the “Restore iPhone” button and follow the on-screen instructions. It’s a huge pain, but at least it’s better than having your shiny new iPhone turned into a big expensive iPod touch.

Here are direct downloads for iOS 8 if you have trouble downloading it through iTunes (save the file to your desktop and then hold Alt/Option (or Shift if you’re using a Windows PC) while clicking on “Restore iPhone” in iTunes, then select the newly saved file):

For those without access to a computer with iTunes right now, you’re unfortunately out of luck. We’ll update this post if anyone finds a way to fix the problems that doesn’t require a computer.
