The LG G Pad GPE Android 4.4.4 OTA update is now available for users. As you may know, the Google Play Edition tablet developed by LG was still rocking Android 4.4.2 and it will skip the Android 4.4.3 update and get updated straight to 4.4.4.
Neither Android 4.4.3, nor Android 4.4.4 brought major updates, the latter one being focused on improving security. On the other hand, Android 4.4.3 arrived with a redesigned Phone Dialer app with a card-based interface and a new color scheme for the phone dialer itself. Android 4.4.3 also arrived with minor changes for the People app. Expect the same changes after you install the LG G Pad 8.3 GPE Android 4.4.4 update.
As usual, the Android 4.4.4 OTA update for LG G Pad 8.3 is being rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. It’s also worth mentioning that you will need to be on Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H) to be able to install the new update.
Once your LG G Pad GPE will become eligible to receive the new firmware update, you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. Tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions. If the system update notification failed to appear you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About tablet > System updates > Check now.
You also have the option to manually flash Android 4.4.4 on your LG G Pad 8.3. First will need the OTA ZIP file that can be grabbed from here, then you will have to flash it either from command prompt using the “adb sideload” command or like you would flash any other ZIP from a recovery.
I should also note that the LG G Pad Android 4.4.4 update is labeled KTU84P.L002 and that it has a size of about 150 MB.
