We already knew since March that both Motorola and LG will release Android Wear-powered smartwatches, but it was only last week when the first rumors regarding a Samsung smartwatch powered by Google’s platform is about to see the light of day. Well, the South Korean company officially unveiled their first Android Wear-powered smartwatch, called Gear Live, at Google I/O 2014.
Just like it was previously reported, the Samsung Gear Live shares many of its specifications with Gear Neo, of course with the difference that the latter one runs Tizen OS.
Samsung Gear Live features a 1.62-inch Super AMOLED display with 320 x 320 resolution, has a 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, a 300 mAh battery, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. It measures 37.9 x 56.4 x 8.9 mm, weighs 59 grams, and just like Samsung’s latest devices is IP67 certified
It also integrates a heart rate monitor and features interchangeable straps. There are two color options available Black and Wine Red.
Software-wise, you will get the same Android Wear experience that’s available on other smartwatches of the family, including voice commands, various apps, and the ability to receive notifications from your smartphone.
The new Android Wear-powered Samsung Gear Live is expected to become available in Google Play Store later today (the smartwatch wasn’t up for order at the time the article was written) and even though the South Koreans failed to reveal its price, it’s expected to cost the same as the Gear Neo: $199.
Samsung is the third major OEM that choose to use Android Wear for one of their smartwatches after LG used it for their G Watch and Motorola integrated it in Moto 360. Which of the three do you prefer?
