Root the Google Nexus 10 with Chainfire CF-Auto-Root

The Nexus 10 has been launched and it runs on the latest Android 4.2 firmware. Use this tutorial to begin the rooting process of your 10.1 inch tablet device and make sure that you don’t skip any steps that I have listed here.

This is a tool that has been created by Chainfire and you can easily use it to root your Nexus 10 tablet. In order to successfully apply the changes listed in this post, you need to follow the pre-requisites guide below. Learn what steps you have to take to correctly configure your PC and your tablet for the root process and, what you need to do to make sure that you can root the Nexus 10 with CF Auto Root utility from your first attempt:

• Use this tutorial only with the Google Nexus 10 tablet. It won’t work with any other Android device and, instead, it will brick them.
• This tool will not unlock your phone’s bootloader, as it only installs the SuperSU binary and the APK. That’s why you should unlock the bootloader of your phone before moving to the tutorial guide. The Nexus 10 bootloader can be unlocked using its own toolkit from HERE. NOTE: that toolkit can also be used to root the device but if you don’t want to use that method, then you should continue with the rest of this guide’s instructions.
• Create backups of all the files currently stored on your tablet as this guide might wipe data in the process.
• Enable USB debugging from your phone’s Developer Options. Note that this menu might be hidden in Android 4.2 and that is why you should open Settings, then About Tablet and then tap the ‘Build number’ section 7 times to un-hide all the developer options.
• Make sure that your PC has the Android SDK installed (download link here). This is a required software as it will be used to push the rooting files onto your device.
• Disable the antivirus applications that are running on your PC.
• Note that we cannot be blamed in case your device gets bricked in the process,or in case you lose any important data in the process.
• Apply this guide only if you know what you’re doing. Remember that by rooting your tablet, you will then be able to flash new custom ROMs and other customization files that you can use to improve your tablet’s performance and UI.
• Note that this guide will void the Nexus 10 warranty.

How to root the Google Nexus 10 using Chainfire’s CF Auto Root Tool:

1. Download the CF-Root-Tool for Nexus 10 from HERE. When the download is complete you should extract the contents of this zip files (place the files on a folder and save it on your PC desktop screen).
2. Power off the Nexus 10 tablet. Boot it into fastboot/ bootloader mode by pressing ‘Volume up’ + ‘volume down’ and Power buttons simultaneously.
3. When the display lights up and shows the ‘Start’ text you can connect your tablet to your computer via USB cable. Windows will install the USB drivers and you can get to the next step when this is complete.
4. Open the CF Auto Root folder created at step 1 and then launch the ‘root windows.bat’ file. This will load the root application screen.
5. Simply press any button to begin the root process of your Nexus 10. Use the on-screen instructions to install all files.
6. Your tablet will restart and it show an Android logo that’s red. When the root is finished you should see that the tablet reboots and it loads into normal mode.
7. Login and the open the Settings from the App drawer. Check to see if the SuperSU application has been installed. If SuperSU does not appear, then you will have to go to its Google Play dedicated web page and install it from there.
8. That’s it, these were all the steps you had to take in order to successfully flash all the root files for your Nexus 10 tablet.

For Mac OS X:

• Open terminal.
• Enter: chmod +x root-mac.sh
