It has been rumored that the folks at Google are planning to kill the Nexus program, but after one of the company’s execs denied the rumors, the fans now have a new reason to wait for a new Nexus device.
A few weeks ago it was reported that Google will team-up with HTC to develop the next-gen Nexus tablet and that the device is known internally as HTC Volantis. The same report also indicated that unlike its predecessor, the Nexus 7, the HTC Volantis will arrive with an 8.9-inch display.
According to import/export website zauba, which provide information about unreleased devices in the past, a “Nexus 8 Prototype Tablet” has been shipped from the US to India on July 4th. The database also holds mention of a “Nexus 8 Prototype Tablet Similar to Nexus (7)” which arrived in India frm the US on June 30th.
The listing also holds information of the Nexus 8 price. It seems that the tablet costs INR 16,649 which is about $275. It’s a bit more expensive than the Nexus 7 2013, but a higher price would make sense given that the Nexus 8 is expected to arrive with a larger display and better technical specifications.
Unfortunately, the veracity of the report can’t be verified in any way, therefore we are advising you to take it with a pinch of salt, as nothing is official until Google says so.
If the reports are to be believed, the Nexus 8 aka HTC Volantis would arrive with an 8.9-inch screen with 2048 x 1440 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio, an 8 MP primary camera with OIS, 3 MP user-facing shooter, 3 GB of RAM, 16 or 32 GB of native storage, while being underpinned by Nvidia’s 64-bit enabled Tegra K1 chipset. It was also suggested that the Android 5.0 L-powered tablet will benefit from HTC’s “aluminium zero-gap” construction.
