We’ve heard a lot of rumors talking about a metal-made Samsung smartphone called Galaxy Alpha. Even though early rumors suggested that the first metallic Samsung smartphone would be a premium variant of the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Alpha seems to be a more compact smartphone. If the rumors prove true, it will come with a 4.8-inch 720p display, 32 GB storage, and a finger print sensor.
Recent leaked Samsung Galaxy Alpha photos have revealed that, even though the smartphone will have a metal frame, it will keep the plastic rear cover design that debuted less than half a year ago on the Samsung Galaxy S5. Of course, there will be some minor aesthetic tweaks. Yesterday, the folks at Sammobile got word from one of their trusted Samsung insiders that the Galaxy Alpha release date has been set for August 4th. Anyway, they updated the original post saying that “Samsung might announce the Galaxy Alpha on August 13″ which checks with previous rumors saying that the smartphone will debut mid-August.
The mid-August Samsung Galaxy Alpha announcement does make sense, given that the Galaxy Note 4 release date has been set for early September and Apple’s iPhone 6 is also expected to arrive in the same time frame. A metal Samsung smartphone with 4.8-inch screen would definitely be capable of stealing some of iPhone 6′s potential customers, especially those who were complaining that Samsung’s smartphones don’t have a premium design. After the Alpha excitement will fade out, the Galaxy Note 4 will take its place as main iPhone 6 rival.
Because there’s no way to verify the veracity of the of Sammobile’s report we are advising you take it with a punch of salt, as nothing is official until Samsung says so. Anyway, we are sure that more details about the Galaxy Alpha will emerge as we get closer to its release date.
