If you happen to own the US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini or Galaxy Mega 6.3 you should keep an eye on the notification bar, as the carrier announced they are now pushing the Android 4.4.2 update to users.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Android 4.4.2 update has build number R890TYUBNE4, while the Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is labelled R960TYUBNF1. The two new firmwares are being rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away.
As you may know, once your smartphone becomes eligible to receive the new software version, you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. If the system update message fails to appear, you can also check for the update manually under Settings > About device > Software update > Check for software update.
Alternatively, you can grab the USB cable, connect your smartphone to the PC and check for the Android 4.4.2 update via KIES.
The Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and Galaxy Mega 6.3 arrives with the usual KitKat goodies such as Caller ID in the Phone Dialer app, new Location menu, full screen album art in the lockscreen, transparent nav and status bars, white status bar icons, camera shortcut in the lockscreen, immersive mode, or color emoji support, along with updated Samsung native apps, Samsung Keyboard improvements, security enhancements, and performance boosts.
We don’t know the exact size of the update file, but it should exceed 500 MB, therefore it’s recommended to use a stable WiFi network while downloading it in order to avoid unwanted data charges.
