Yu Chengdong, Huawei CEO, has revealed in a recent interview with 21st Century Business Herald that the China-based phone maker is working on a Huawei Ascend P7 model that sports a sapphire glass front panel. As you may know, the rumor mill speculates that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will also arrive with a sapphire glass screen.
Even though Chengdong’s statements might push everyone into believing that the Chinese company is planning to launch a premium version of the Huawei Ascend P7, we should also take into consideration that the said terminal could only be a prototype. Anyway, IFA 2014 Berlin is right around the corner and it would be the perfect occasion for Huawei to introduce the new premium device.
Anyway, Huawei’s officials have previously said that the company is aiming to become a premium brand in the near future, so we should expect serious changes in their strategy. Therefore, a premium Huawei Ascend P7 with sapphire glass announced at next month at IFA Berlin would mark the beginning of a new era for the Chinese manufacturer.
As a refresher, the current Huawei Ascend P7 is only 6.5 mm thin and it arrives with a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution, while being underpinned by a HiSilicon Kirin 910T SoC with quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex A9 CPU and Mali 450MP4 GPU. The smartphone also arrives with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage, and a 13 MP prmary camera with autofocus, LED flash, and support for 1080p@30fps video recording. It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box with Emotion UI 2.3 on top of it and brings connectivity features such as LTE, WiFi, BT 4.0 LE, NFC, IR port, and microUSB 3.0.
