Lenovo, the company that acquired Motorola from Google for almost $3 billion and the fourth largest smartphone vendor in Q2 2014, have revealed a new high-end phablet. Called Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro the device brings a massive 6-inch display with Quad HD resolution.
The rumor mill speculated over the past few weeks that Lenovo’s next-gen flagship will arrive with a QHD screen and the company’s announcement just confirmed the rumors. The new Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro features an amazing 6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and capable of reaching 500 nits of peak brightness.
The Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is what you would call a flagship smartphone, packing a Snapdragon 801 SoC with quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of native storage, and dual-SIM support. Unfortunately the handset doesn’t feature a micoSD card slot.
The 6-inch monster is kept alive by a huge 4,000 mAh battery. On the back of the device you will find a 16 MP primary camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), dual LED flash, and 4K video recording capabilities.
But Vibe Z2 Pro is not only about muscles, it has the looks, too. The smartphone has a really thin bezel and features a metallic brushed-wave unibody frame. It’s 156 mm tall, 81.3 mm wide, only 7.7 mm thin, and has a weigh of 179 grams. Z2 Pro is available in three color options: titanium, gold, and black.
Lenovo announced that their new tablet will hit the store shelves later next month. Vibe Z2 Pro will have a price of RUB 29,990 (that’s about $835) in Russia, but the price is market-dependent, as usual. The China-based company failed to reveal whether the new device will hit the North American market, too. Anyway, if you are reading this from Asia I am pretty sure you will be able to get your hands on the new Z2 Pro sometime in September.
Vibe Z2 Pro is a pretty cool handset and it would be a shame if Lenovo doesn’t find a way to increase product penetration in markets outside China. Their new handset would make a great rival for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 or against LG’s G3 Stylus. We’ve even heard of a 5.9-inch Nexus 6 so the phablet niche would become very competitive this year.
