Moto G2 Release Date Could Be September 10

Moto G is Motorola’s most popular smartphone and a successor is reportedly around the corner. Named Moto G2 or Moto G+1 the mid-range smartphone could make its market debut next month. The information comes from the retailers who got word from the Chicago-based phone maker.

According to the folks at GSM Arena who managed to get in touch with a retailer the Moto G2 should become available for purchase on September 10. This could mean that we might get to see the smartphone for the first time early September when it might be officially introduced at IFA Berlin 2014 tech fair. The publication also informs that some retailers might get the new Moto G2 in stock by the end of August, but, of course, they will not be able to sell it sooner than September 10.

If the rumors prove true, the Moto G2 (or G+1) will be an upgrade from its predecessor. It seems that the handset will come with a 5-inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution, while being underpinned by a Snapdragon 400 processor with quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. The rumor mill also speculates that the mid-range device will sport an 8 MP primary shooter with support for 720p video recording and a 2 MP user-facing cam that should do it for selfies and video-calls. The Moto G2 specs list also include 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB storage with support for microSD card expansion, while running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Anyway, it seems that the Moto G2 will be more expensive than its predecessor. GSM Arena writes that the new handset will be available at a price of €250 ($340) which is almost twice the price of the Moto G which had a price tag of $170 at debut. Motorola will also launch a Dual-SIM variant of the G2 and we might also get to see a LTE-enabled model, unless the original Moto G2 doesn’t support LTE connectivity out of the box.
