Samsung Galaxy S5 4G+ with Snapdragon 805 CPU to Debut in Singapore August 23

While many Samsung fans are still waiting for an international debut of the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, the South Korea-based phone maker just introduced a new variant of their flagship smartphone. Called Samsung Galaxy S5 4G+ the new handset will debut in Singapore on August 23, right in time for the debut of SingTel’s 300 Mbps 4G LTE-A network. Well, unlike the South Korean Galaxy S5 LTE-A, the new Galaxy S5 4G+ is almost identical to the standard S5, except for being underpinned by a more powerful processor.

Samsung Galaxy S5 4G+ is powered by a Snapdragon 805 chipset with quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 450 CPU and Adreno 420 GPU paired with 2 GB of RAM. Even though S5 LTE-A features a Quad HD (1440 x 2560) screen, the new Galaxy S5 4G+ keeps the same 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen of the standard S5. It has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 432 ppi, while being protected by a Gorilla Glass 3 layer.

The new smartphone measures 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm, weighs in at 145 grams, and runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, customized with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI. The technical specifications list also includes 16 GB of storage expandable using microSD cards (up to 128 GB supported), a 2,800 mAh battery, 16 MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus, LED flash, 1/2.6” sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, HDR, and support for 4K video recording, plus a 2 MP user-facing camera capable of shooting Full HD videos. The handset is both water and dust resistant and, just like the original Galaxy S5, it arrives with a fingerprint sensor and a heart rate monitor.

SingTel will sell the Galaxy S5 4G+ at a retail price between SG$0 and SG$688, depending on the plan. For what it’s worth, Samsung will also introduce a 4G+-enabled Galaxy Alpha in Singapore, but the details regarding its price and availability are yet to be revealed.
