Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard blog spoke to "WWE 2K15" executive producer Mark Little about game's development and where he wants to take the series.
Little revealed that to create a new technology called "beard tech" to get WWE superstar Daniel Bryan's beard as accurate as possible.
“Scanning doesn’t do beards or hair well, so for guys like Daniel Bryan, we needed to use this new beard tech to get him just right,” Little said. “There is this specific code of technology that we use to get the beards just right, and no beard is alike. Daniel Bryan’s is more open and scraggily, where if you look at a guy like Mark Henry, he has a big beard, but it’s thick and solid. We had to create technology to be able to capture both in a way that not only looked great still, but animated.”
Little also talked to Extra Mustard about the power of current-gen consoles and how they have improved scanning technology.
“One of the things moving to the new hardware affords us is to rethink and retool the game,” Little said. “The entire scanning technology that we used can’t be done for the older consoles. It’s that intense, it’s that complex. What it affords us is the most lifelike images we can get, including signature facial expressions for each superstar.”
Little's main goal for the "WWE 2K" franchise was also revealed in the interview. He said his goal was to have for the series to loved the same way the "NBA 2K" series is.
"I wanted to bring the visual intensity people love about the NBA 2K series to the WWE games. With the power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we are able to bring these characters to life in a way we were just never able to do in previous games."
A new career mode for "WWE 2K15" was announced by 2K Sports a few weeks ago. According to IGN, the mode is called MyCareer and was adapted from NBA 2K14. The mode will let players create their own character and try to take that character from the bottom of the WWE to a world champion.
The website reported that the mode will also include motion-captured WWE Superstars and authentic voices. Unfortunately it will only be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
The game is set to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 28 in North America and October 31 internationally.
