Many of the smartphone owners based in the US already own a ZTE device, but some of them might not eve know it. The Chinese phone maker has provided smartphones for carriers for years, but, most of the times, those phones were re-branded. The company’s presence on the North American market has grown and now they want to further expand their market share with a device with ZTE branding. Therefore they announced the ZTE Nubia 5S Mini an unlocked smartphone that will become available for purchase starting August 27 for $279 onAmazon.
Since its unlocked, if you decide to get your hands on the Nubia 5S Mini you should know you would be able to use it on any GSM, WCDMA, or LTE network. Anyway, the best thing about it is the affordable price and the slim design.
ZTE Nubia 5S Mini is 134.8 mm tall, 65.8 mm wide, and only 7.6 mm thin, despite having to accommodate a 4.7-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 resolution. The handset is underpinned by a Snapdragon 400 SoC with quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU and Adreno 305 GPU paired with 2 GB of RAM. Te technical specifications list also includes 16 GB of internal storage, microSD slot, and a 2,000 mAh battery. It has a 13 MP primary shooter with BSI image sensor and LED flash, 5 MP user-facing camera, and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box.
Even though it might not be the most powerful smartphone on the market, its technical specifications and especially its price would probably attract the customers looking for an affordable mid-range smartphone. Furthermore, a 13 MP main camera is pretty hard to find on a mid-range smartphone. Unfortunately, the ZTE Nubia 5S Mini only comes with Jelly Bean and we’re wondering why since KitKat is almost a year old. Anyway, the Nubia 5S Mini is more of test smartphone for the Chinese company and if the feedback matches the expectations we would probably be able to see more ZTE smartphones hitting the US in the coming months.
