Just a week after the launch of iOS 8Apple pushed out an update that was meant to fix several minor bugs that had been discovered following its release. Unfortunately, many iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users who downloaded iOS 8.0.1 soon discovered that the update included a few additional unwanted features: the inability to place phone calls or use Touch ID.
About an hour after the reports began to spread, Apple pulled the update from its servers. The company then provided BGR the following statement:
“We have received reports of an issue with the iOS 8.0.1 update. We are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can. In the meantime we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update.”
Hours later, Apple published an official update on its website explaining how users could roll back to iOS 8 in order to restore cell service and Touch ID functionality while the team worked on a new update that would undo the damage. It’s taken a little over 24 hours, but iOS 8.0.2 is now live on Apple’s servers for all to download. It might be worth waiting a few minutes to make sure no other catastrophic errors crop up, but the latest update should turn your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus into a working phone again.
