Verizon and Samsung have decided to release a brand new Android 4.4.4 KitKat build update for all the Samsung Galaxy S5. Check your phone’s notification panel starting today and see if there are any new files available for installation.
The new Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA Update has the firmware build set at KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2 and it comes with several small tweaks and improvements that should make your Verizon Galaxy S5 work faster and better than it did until now. Also, this KitKat build might possibly be the final one as Google is readying to launch the Android 5.0 L firmware by the end of October.
Here’s a small list of changes added by this new Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA Update for your Galaxy S5 Verizon phone: added extra tracking elements for the S-Health technology such as Weight, Sleep, Stress and Coach, support for accessing Emergency Call dialer straight from the Lock Screen by wiping over the Emergency button, camera shutter on/off button added to camera settings menu, and several fixes and tweaks. Another change added by this update would be the Advanced Calling 1.0, which is Verizon’s new VoLTE branding that allows Galaxy S5 users to initiate native video calls.
The Android 4.4.4 KitKat G900VVRU1ANI2 update also fixes various bugs like the Bluetooth headset audio loss, or the one where you would have seen the wrong unread email number displayed by the notification pull-down screen. Another bug that has been fixed in this release is the one that was mismatching the Caller ID with the linked Contact info when using KNOX. There might be some other fixes, but those are probably small changes, so Verizon didn’t bother to list them in their Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 Update Changelog.
Android 4.4.4 OTA Update is rolled out in phases and you should get the new firmware files by the end of this month. If the KitKat 4.4.4 notification appears on your device, then you simply need to confirm the download and installation and your phone will take care of the entire update process by itself automatically.
Also, if the update hasn’t arrived, then your go to the Software Update menu and check for new KitKat firmware update files manually. Tell us in comments if you’ve got the update and make sure to list which changes you like the most in Android 4.4.4 and if your Galaxy S5 Verizon battery life has been improved in any major way.
