CyanogenMod is no doubt one of the most popular Android custom ROMs. The CyanogenMod team announced last week that the CM 11 M10 Snapshot update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 is now officially available for download. We took some to test the latest CM snapshots on several of the aforementioned Nexus devices and we are glad to announce you that we didn’t encounter any major issues.
We’ve tested CM 11 M10 on Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2013 (WiFi), and Nexus 10 and the new snapshot works just fine. In fact, I am running CM 11 M10 on my Nexus 10 as a daily driver and I couldn’t wish for more. I’m enjoying an almost bug-free experience and while CM 11 is very fluid.
CM 11 is aiming to bring the stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat experience to your device, but enhance it with a handful of useful features like Heads-up notifications, support for installing third-party themes, change the toggles in the Quick Settings area, and more. According to the official changelog for CM11 M10 build posted on Cyanogen Mod’s blog, the new update arrives with bug fixes and improved Theme Engine, added scramble pin feature and soft reboot option, and the ability to long press recent apps to switch to last used app. It also brings support for smart cover and glove mode (where supported), and the ability to control NFC permissions through Privacy Guard.
If you previously flashed custom ROMs on your device, installing CM 11 M10 on your Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, or Nexus 10 shouldn’t give you any headaches. As you may know, you will need an unlocked bootloader, root access, and a custom recovery. Next, download Gapps from here and the CM 11 M10 build for your device from here. Copy both files on your smartphone / tablet, reboot into recovery mode, choose “install ZIP”, “choose zip from SD card”, navigate to the location where you copied the and CM 11 M10 ZIPs, choose them both, then flash them on your device. Perform factory reset (delete cache and dalvik too, just in case), then reboot. Now you should be running CM 11 M10.
Anyway, do not try to install CM 11 M10 on your device if you have no idea what you’re doing, or else you might end up bricking your device. We are recommending you to search for tutorials in the Update section of our website.
