Just a few hours back we brought you fresh information on the Google Nexus 6 or the Motorola Shamu courtesy of a new report on 9to5Google. And now we have our very first look at the alleged device thanks to a leaked picture on the web which shows the back of the Shamu alongside the LG G3. The LG G3 comes with a 5.5-inch display with a very high screen-to-body ratio. This is important to note as the leaked image gives us an idea of the overall size of the Nexus 6. So while it may look huge compared to the LG G3 here, the difference wouldn’t be as profound when compared to something like the Apple iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5-inch display and relatively low screen-to-body ratio.
If the picture is indeed of the real Motorola Shamu, it would be the first Nexus phablet from Google. We’ve also been hearing rumors of a 5.2 inch Nexus 6 in the past, including leaked benchmarks on GFXBench. So this new image does make us wonder if Google is planning to launch the Nexus 6 in two different screen size options – 5.2″ and 5.9″. If there will only be one version – 5.9″ as reported by 9To5Google, the Nexus 6 will end up being a niche device in our opinions. Yes, the market has been moving steadily towards larger screen sizes on flagship devices, but 5.9 inches is a tad too big even for people with larger than average palms.
As we mentioned in our earlier report, the Motorola made Nexus 6 is going to pack superior hardware specifications on all fronts. A 5.92″ display with 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, 13MP rear camera with 4K Ultra HD video recording, and a 3200mAh battery are right up there with the best in the market currently.
It remains to be seen how well the impressive hardware will translate to real-world performance and how well Google and Motorola will be able to differentiate the Shamu from the other top smartphones in the market.
