The folks at Motorola introduced their next-gen Moto G and Moto X smartphones earlier this month, but it looks like they are planning to improve their portfolio with even more devices. Recent reports are talking about a new Motorola Droid handset that, as usual, will be available through Verizon’s network. If the reports prove to be accurate than the new Droid will pack a 4.6-inch screen with impressive Quad HD resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and 3 GB of RAM.
We are a bit skeptical about the reported screen size, as Quad HD resolution on a 4.6-inch screen would really not be worth it. Anyway, if CNET’s “people familiar with the matter” are right, then the new Droid might be released on Verizon’s network next month. Again, we are advising you to take the rumor with a pinch of salt, because there’s now way to verify its veracity.
The new device is reportedly called Droid Turbo and it might arrive with fast charging support. Droid Landing tweeted a while ago that “Faster charging is a big deal. That’s why we made it a bigger deal. #waitforit” Is this an indication that a Droid device with fast charging is around the corner? It could be, but it’s a bit early to tell for sure.
Besides a Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3 GB of RMA, and a QHD screen, there have also been reports of a 20 MP primary camera and 2 MP user-facing camera for the new Droid Turbo. It was also rumored that the Turbo will be the only Droid coming this year, which is not necessarily good news. As you may know, the past couple of years brought us “Maxx” models which where highly appreciated for their lasting battery. This, or maybe Motorola is planning to fit a huge battery inside the Droid Turbo, so a Maxx model wouldn’t make sense anymore.
If the rumored Droid Turbo specs prove to be the real deal, would you be tempted to purchase it instead of another 2014 flagship smartphone? Please let us know in comments.
