As the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 release date draws near, new reports regarding Google’s next-gen stock Android-powered devices are starting to surface online. Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are no doubt two of the most anticipated Android devices of the year, especially because their launch will also mark the public release of Android L.
Not long ago, respected member of Android community Paul O’Brian, tweeted, quoting anonymous sources, that the Nexus 9 release date has been set for October 16. Even though O’Brian’s source is unverifiable, his claims check out with previous reports that indicated that new Nexus hardware might be unveiled mid-to-late October. In fact, over the past couple of years, Google announced new Nexus devices sometime around Halloween. Furthermore, it was yesterday when we heard from two different respectable tech publications thatthe Nexus 9 release date is indeed “very close.”
On the other hand, some leaks regarding the Nexus 9 coming straight from Nvidia, placed its release date even closer. A leaked Nvidia document revealed on September 13 that the new Nexus tablet is expected in Q3. The said document is a part of Nvidia’s legal fillings for taking Qualcomm to court over alleged violation of several GPU patents.
The latest report about the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 release date are coming from the folks at Android Authority. According to their sources, new Nexus hardware and the final version of Android L will be announced mid-October. Their source also revealed that the new products “won’t officially be available until November 1st.”
If the rumors are to be believed, the Nexus 9 (codenamed Flounder or Volantis) will be manufactured by HTC and arrive with an 8.9-inch display with 4:3 aspect ratio. It was also reported that the tablet will be underpinned by a 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 CPU, while sporting 4 GB RAM, 8 MP primary camera, and 2 MP secondary cam. On the other hand, the unofficially dubbed Nexus 6 (codenamed Shamu), could be manufactured by Motorola, while featuring a 5.2-inch Quad HD screen, quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU, 3 GB RAM, and 12 MP camera with OIS.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to verify the veracity of the reports, therefore we are advising you to take them with a pinch of salt. Are you excited about the launch of Nexus 6 and Nexus 9? Please let us know in the comments section below.
