Earlier this year, Samsung introduced a new metallic phone called Galaxy Alpha. If you were planning to buy the smartphone in the States, you should know that AT&T will be the only carrier to have the Galaxy Alpha in their portfolio.
AT&T released a press statement today, saying that they will exclusively carry the Galaxy Alpha. They also revealed that the device will have a price of $199 with a two-year contract and that it will be available in three color options: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White and Frosted Gold. You will be able to find the Galaxy Alpha in AT&T’s online and brick-and-mortar stores starting September 26.
If signing contracts with carriers is not your thing, you should also know that you can buy the device from AT&T off-contract at a price of $612.99. You will also be able to pay $0 down and split the payment in monthly fees of $25.55 with AT&T Next 18, or $0 down and monthly fees of $30.65 with Next 12 installment plan.
For what it’s worth, AT&T is selling the Galaxy S5 at $199.99 on-contract or $649.99 unlocked. Despite having less powerful specs, the Galaxy Alpha is considered true flagship by the South Korean company.
Talking about technical specifications, I remind you that Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 312 ppi pixel density, it has an octa-core Exynos 5430 SoC (quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 + quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 and Mali T628 MP6 GPU), 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, 12 MP primary camera with 4K video recording support, and 1,860 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box and brings all the connectivity features worthy of a modern smartphone including LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, and microUSB 2.0.
It’s not clear yet whether AT&T will have an infinite period or exclusivity or other carriers will also get the Galaxy Alpha in their portfolio at a later time. Are you buying?
