It was rumored for a while that Samsung will also introduce a Galaxy Note 4 variant with Youm-like bet display for niche markets. Well, the South Korean company confirmed the rumors today, after they introduced the new Galaxy Note Edge.
There’s no doubt that the main selling point of the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be the display that is bent over the right edge of the phone. Does it look familiar? Of course it is, because the South Korean company demoed a similar prototype phone, the Youm, a few years ago at CES. The new form factor should allow the users to view notifications without turning on the whole display which should be translated into better battery life. It also allows you to customize and choose between multiple the screens on the bent edge.
The Galaxy Note Edge arrives with a display that it’s 0.1-inch smaller than the one of the original Note 4. It has a 5.6-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED screen with 2560 x 1440 + 160 resolution. The processing tasks are handled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 CPU and Adreno 420 GPU. The new smartphone also features 3 GB of RAM, 32/64 GB of microSD-expandable storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy Note Edge measures 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3 mm and weighs in at 174 grams. Because it’s a member of the Note tribe, the new device arrives with an S Pen stylus and S Pen-optimized software features such as Air Command: Action Memo, Screen Write, Image Clip, Smart Select, S Note, Snap Note, and Direct Pen Input. Talking about software, Note Edge comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat, customized with Samsung’s proprietary UI. You will be able to enjoy features like Multi Window, Ultra Power Saving Mode, Download Booster, S Health 3.5, Dynamic Lock Screen, and Briefing. The Edge screen UX that runs on the bent part of the new device arrives with features like Revolving Interaction, Immersive apps(Camera, Video, S Note), Ticker board, Express me, Quick Tools, Night Clock, etc.
On the back of the Galaxy Note Edge you will be able to find a 16 MP main shooter with autofocus, Smart OIS, HDR (Rich tone), Selective Focus, Rear-cam Selfie, Beauty face, Virtual Tour Shot, Shot&More, Dual Camera and 4K video recording support. The front-facing camera has a 3.7 MP sensor with f1.9 aperture and features like Selfie and Wide Selfie.
