Moto G Is Official, Brings 5-inch HD Screen
The first Moto G was definitely the Motorola’s most popular 2013 smartphone. Even though the smartphone wasn’t a huge success on the US market, it was sold above expectations overseas, especially in the emerging markets. Now Motorola has officially announced its successor which is called Moto G. Even though it has received noteworthy hardware upgrades, it has a price of only $179 off-contract.
The new Moto G is running Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box and, as usual, Motorola didn’t applied their own skin on top of stock Android. Furthermore, Motorola guarantees that the new Moto G will get updated to Android L.
The second generation Motorola Moto G arrives with a 5.0-inch AMOLED display with HD (720 x 1280) resolution, 294 ppi pixel density, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The processing tasks are handled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU and 450 MHz Adreno 305 GPU. The technical specifications list also includes 8 or 16 GB of microSD-expandable storage (for both the Single SIM and Dual SIM variants of the phone), 1 GB RAM, a 2,070 mAh battery, and connectivity features like HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 3.5 mm audio jack, and microUSB. There’s no word yet for an LTE-enabled variant, but don’t be surprised if you hear that Motorola announces one in the next few months.
While the rear-facing camera has an 8 MP sensor with 4X digital zoom and Auto HDR, the front-facing shooter has a 2 MP sensor. Both are upgrades from the previous generation Moto G.
The new Motorola affordable smartphone is 141.5 mm tall, 70.7 mm wide, 11 mm thin, and weighs in at 149 grams. It has a curved back, changeable back shells, and it’s water repellent.
As I was mentioning above, the Moto G will be available in both Dual and Single SIM variants. There’s even a Dual SIM DTV model for Brazil which will only arrive in a 16 GB variant.
Motorola officially revealed that the new Moto G will start selling today on their website and a number of US retailers at a starting price of $179. The new smartphone is also available in India, France, UK, Brazil, Spain and Germany, and more markets will join by the end of the year.
