HTC already has a high-end Android-powered smartphone on the market, the highly-appreciated One M8. It looks though that the Taiwan-based company is planning to launch new high-end smartphones by the end of the year. Or at least that’s what the latest reports claim.
New details about the HTC Eye have surfaced online courtesy of@upleaks. It was initially believed that the terminal will be called One EYE, but according to the aforementioned source, it will be a member of the Desire family. This, or there are actually two Eye smartphones coming.
If @upleaks’ report turns out true, then the new Desire Eye will be a powerful competitor on the high-end segment, being based on a hardware platform comparable to the one of the Butterfly 2 or One M8. Just like previous rumors have indicated, the Desire Eye could arrive with two 13 MP cameras on the front and the back. What’s even more interesting is that the user-facing shooter will have dual-LED flash, just like the rear-facing unit. Both cameras will also arrive with wide-angle f 2.0 lens, so Desire Eye would become the perfect smartphone for selfie maniacs.
Design-wise, Desire Eye is a reminiscent of HTC’s Desire 820. It’s made of plastic, has a two-color scheme, and a design philosophy based on simple lines. The report also indicates that Desire Eye will be IPX7-certified, thus water resistant.
As far as it looks, HTC Desire Eye is a selfie-orientated smartphone, but @upleaks also informs that other members of HTC’s line-up will also receive selfie-centric features. According to him, One M8, Butterfly 2, One E8, and One Mini will all get these features before they get updated to Android L. I remind you that HTC promised to update both One M7 and One M8 to Android L within 90 days after Google makes the final code available.
As for the HTC Desire Eye release date, expect too see the new smartphone in flesh later this month, on October 8, when HTC will host their Double Exposure event. For what it’s worth, the HTC’s Re Camera action camera is expected to debut at the same event.
Would you be tempted to purchase a smartphone that has dual-LED flash and 13 MP camera in the front? Please let us know in comments.
