HTC Desire Eye Specs Officially Revealed: Two 13 MP Cameras, 5.2-inch FHD Screen, and Snapdragon 801 CPU

We’ve been hearing recently that HTC has a selfie-centric smartphone in the works, called Desire Eye. Well, most of the rumors were confirmed yesterday at HTC’s Double Exposure event in New York, where the HTC Desire Eye was officially introduced to the public.

Just like the rumor mill speculated over the past couple of weeks, the HTC Desire Eye is indeed aimed at the selfie-obsessed users. The device sports a user-facing 13 MP shooter and it looks exactly like in the leaked photos we saw the other days.

The new HTC high-end smartphone is like a selfie-centric variant of the recently announced HTC One E8. Desire Eye packs two 13 MP cameras with dual-LED flash, one in the front an the other on the back. The front-facing unit is located in the upper-central part of the smartphone, with the dual-LED flash on the left and the mic on the right. The new HTC smartphone has support for recording 1080p at 30fps videos and it also comes with BoomSound stero speakers.

HTC Desire Eye features a 5.2-inch Super LCD3 display with 1080 x 1920 resolution and 423 ppi pixel density and is IPx7 certified (water resistant up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The processing tasks are handled by a Snapdragon 801 SoC with quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU, paired with 2 GB of RAM. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, of course customized with HTC’s Sense 6 interface. The technical specifications list also includes LTE, NFC, WiFi dual-band, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS, microUSB 2.0, 2,400 mAh battery, 16 GB of internal storage, and support for microSD cards up to 128 GB.

The new HTC smartphone also arrives with new photo-orientated features like Eye Experience and the new HTC Zoe. Eye Experience allows the user to use both cameras in the same time in Split Capture mode, while Crop-Me-In lets you put yourself in photos captured with the rear-facing cam. The selfie camera is capable of detecting up to four faces and the shutter can be triggered saying “smile” or “action.”

The new smartphone is 151.7 mm tall, 73.8 mm wide, 8.5 mm thin, and weighs in at 154 grams. It will be available in two body colors: Coral Reef (white / red) and Blue Lagoon (light blue / dark blue).

Of course, the new HTC Desire Eye is compatible with HTC’s new action camera, RE. The Taiwan-based phone maker announced that the new device will hit the US this October and that it will be available exclusively at AT&T. Unfortunately, the pricing wasn’t revealed, but we are expecting it to have the same pricing point as the One E8.
