Nexus 9 Pays a Visit to the FCC
The Nexus 9 release date is yet a mystery, but given the amount of leaks and reports that surfaced online over the past few weeks, the launch of the next-gen Nexus tablet seems to be closer than expected. We first heard about the HTC-made Nexus 9 back in sprint and now the new device was spotted in FCC’s database.
For what it’s worth, the new Nexus 9 could be codenamed Volantis, or Flounder, or T1, while the model number for the tablet that is 0P82100. The documents filed for the FCC certification belong to HTC Corporation and they are dated June 23, 2014. Furthermore, the device is labeled as a tablet and the first samples were sent to the FCC early spring, which is also the moment we’ve first heard that HTC is planning a nexus tablet.
The aforementioned documents also reveal that there will be two storage options for the Nexus 9 – 16 and 32 GB – information that once again align with previous reports. There are also mentions of Bluetooth, NFC, and WiFi 802.11ac.
If the rumors are to be believed, the HTC Nexus 9 would be a powerful tablet. It seems that besides sporting an 8.9-inch screen with 4:3 screen ratio, the new tablet could also pack a 64-bit-enabled Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 8 MP primary camera, and 2 MP secondary camera. Without a doubt the new device will leave the factory gates pre-loaded with Android L, or whatever the name of the final build will be.
Even though it was rumored earlier this year that the Nexus line-up will be replaced by a new Google program called Android Silver, there’s no doubt that the Nexus family is here to stay. In fact, soon after I/O 2014 in June, a Google employee officially dismissed the rumors that said the Nexus line-up will be ditched.
Rumor has it that both the Nexus 9 and the Nexus 6 could be announced sometime between October 15 and first week of November. I am pretty sure that more leaked details of the two devices will surface online in the meantime.
