The Paranoid Android team has released a new beta build of their custom ROM. They announced in a blog post that Paranoid Android 4.6 Beta 5 for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 is now available for download. Of course, the new build is also up for grabs for other supported devices.
As you may know, Paranoid Android 4.6 aims to bring some of the Lollipop aesthetics on your device and the new Beta 5 build makes no exception. Besides the usual performance improvements and bug fixes, PA 4.6 Beta 5 (Playful Pitaya) also arrives with more tweaks for the Dynamic System Bar and a the ability to fine tune the DSB settings. Changing the frequency of the DSB “can have an influence on the battery life” of your device. Anyway, the PA team said that the DSB frequency tweaking feature is experimental and that it might not be included in future builds if it doesn’t behave as planned. Also, you might not want to mess around with the DSB settings if you have no idea what you’re doing.
As I was mentioning above, the Paranoid Android 4.6 Beta 5 update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 is now available for download, but you would also be able to enjoy the new build on other devices such as OnePlus One, Oppo Find 5, Oppo Find 7, Find 7a, and N1, and Galaxy Nexus (GSM, Verizon, and Sprint variants). You can download the latest PA build from Paranoid Android’s official download page here. It’s also worth mentioning that I am currently running PA 4.6 Beta 5 on my Nexus 5 as a daily driver and I have yet to discover any annoyances.
If you have some experience with installing custom ROMs on your device, then flashing Paranoid Android 4.6 Beta 5 shouldn’t give you any headaches. You know the drill: unlock the bootloader, root the device, and install a custom recovery. Download PA 4.6 Beta 5 for your device from here and Gapps from here, copy both ZIP files on your device, then boot into recovery mode. Once there, go to ‘install zip from sdcard,’ then go to ‘choose zip from sdcard,’ navigate to the folder where you have copied PA 4.6 Beta 5 and Gapps, then flash both ZIP files like you would any other ZIP. Apply factory reset, then reboot into normal mode. Voila! Your device is now running Paranoid Android 4.6 Beta 5.
