Sony Xperia Z Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Will Arrive Next Year

Sony officially confirmed that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia Z will be rolled out next year. The Japan-based phone maker didn’t announce the exact date when the new update will be pushed to the users, but expect it ti arrive sometime Q1 or Q2 2015.

In fact, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be rolled out for all Xperia Z devices, including the Xperia Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Tablet Z. The Google Play Edition Xperia Z Ultra will be the first device to receive the new update (most likely early next month), followed by Sony’s 2014 flagship smartphones Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 in early 2014. As I was mentioning above, Sony didn’t reveal the exact timing when the Xperia Z Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be made available, but it shouldn’t take them to long to optimize the new firmware for the device. Of course, the Xperia Z unlocked variant will be the first in-line to get the new update. The carrier-branded models are usually getting updates behind the curve, because carriers need extra time to test the new firmware on their network.

When your Xperia Z will become eligible to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. It’s also worth noting that your Xperia Z must run an unaltered stock firmware for you to receive the Android 5.0 OTA update.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is no doubt the biggest update Google’s mobile operating system has received until now. The new Android version arrives with Material Design UI, lock screen notifications, dynamic status bar, battery saving mode, revamped notifications panel, new Quick Settings menu, multi-user for phones, ART runtime, support for 64-bit processors, USB audio, and more.
