The Android 4.4.4 update for Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet has received certification, which means that the public roll out is right around the corner. Even though Sony’s older devices got updated to Android 4.4.4 a while ago, the owners of the Xperia Z2 were still unable to update their devices to the latest Android version. The good news is their luck will change in the near future.

According to Xperia Blog, the Android 4.4.4 firmware has been certified for both Xperia Z2 and Xperia Tablet Z2 both having build number 23.0.1.A.0.167. It looks like the supported Xperia Z2 variants are D6502 and D6503, while the supported Xperia Z2 Tablet models are SGP521 and SGP541.

Of course, the changelog for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet Android 4.4.4 update is not yet available, but the new update should arrive with many of Xperia Z3’s UI elements and new features. You should also expect the new firmware to bring the 4.4.4-specific security enhancements and the improved 4.4.3 dialer.

Once the certification procedure is complete and the new update is ready for prime-time, Sony will roll it out in stages, which means that some users might not be able to download and install it right away. As usual, once your terminal will become eligible to receive the new Android 4.4.4 OTA update you should be able to notice a system update message in the notification bar. After the notification has appeared, tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions. In case the system update notification doesn’t show up after a while, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.
