Verizon’s Netflix streaming is finally getting faster after payouts

On Monday, Netflix updated its ISP-shaming speed index, and it revealed the average streaming speeds for Verizon FiOS, which rose 31.5% last month to 3.17 Mbps during peak hours, up from 2.41 Mbps in August.
“In the U.S., Verizon FiOS jumped nine spots to top the index with a speed of 3.17 Megabits per second (Mbps.) The rapid rise, which began last month, followed an interconnection agreement with the company that uncongested ports for mutual customers,” Netflix states. “Similar arrangements with Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-Verse also resulted in increased speeds in September of 2.87 Mbps and 2.77 Mbps respectively.”
This is good news, but not great. The average Internet speed in America was 10 Mbps in April, and when you compare that to other countries that have access to Netflix, America is 10th, ranking behind even Latvia:

However, Netflix adds that this is the first major speed improvement since Verzionannounced that it would boost streaming speeds for its customers.
