Nexus 7 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Now Rolling out
Google officially introduced Android 5.0 Lollipop mid-October and soon after the announcement it was reported that the Nexus 7 Android 5.0 Lollipop will be rolled out November 3rd. The day came and went away, then another report said that the update will be pushed to users November 12th. The second report was accurate, as Google rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 2013 is now live.
For the time being, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is only being rolled out for the WiFi-only variants of the Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013. The Lollipop build for both devices is labelled LRX21P and, as usual, is being pushed to users in stages which means that some of you might have to wait longer than others.
As you may know already, once your device becomes eligible to receive the new firmware you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it then follow the on screen instructions. If you can’t see the system update notification you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now. Note that you must run an official stock to be able to get the OTA update.
As I was mentioning above, we are dealing with a staged roll out, so you might not be able to download and install the update right away. Fortunately, there are a couple of workarounds. You can either force the update using the OTA ZIP or you can flash a factory image. The latter procedure will fully wipe your device and it’s ideal when you are coming from a custom ROM. You can download the factory image from here, but be careful, as the installation requires advanced skills.
