Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Leak, Could Be Codenamed Project Zero
I guess it’s safe to assume that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is already in the works and that the South Korean phone maker will officially introduce their next-gen flagship smartphone sometime in the first half of 2015. What we didn’t know so far is that the Galaxy S6 might be known internally as Project Zero.
A source close to the matter has revealed for Sammobile that Samsung is developing the Galaxy S6 “from scratch” and that it could be “the best Galaxy S flagship we’ve seen yet.” We are glad to see that Samsung’s latest smartphones are taking steps forward towards a premium approach (just look at the Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note, and the new Galaxy A Series) and, hopefully, the Galaxy S6 will make no exception.
The Sammobile insider also revealed some details about the technical specifications of the device. According to him/her, the Galaxy S6 will have a Quad HD (1440 x 2560) screen, which isn’t surprising at all if you take a look at the high-end Android smartphones that were recently announced. Because the smartphone is still in the early stages of development, the size might not be decided yet. Anyway, you shouldn’t expect a significant growth in terms of size, because they would risk cannibalizing Note 4’s and Note 5’s sales. My guess is that the S6 will either have a 5.2-inch or it will keep the screen size of the S4.
Because Android 5.0 Lollipop – which will no doubt be the OS underpinning the S6 – comes with support for 64-bit processors, Samsung have reportedly fitted one inside their next-gen flagship. As usual, there will be two variants: an Exynos one and a Snapdragon one. The former variant will have a brand new Exynos 7420 processor and it will include a Samsung-made LTE-friendly Exynos Modem 333. The Snapdragon-powered model will most likely make use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor.
The other technical specifications include 3 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. It looks like Samsung has removed the 16 GB option and that the Galaxy S6 will be available in three storage options: 32, 64, and 128 GB. Are they doing this because they want to remove the microSD support. It’s a bit too early to tell.
The user-facing camera might receive an upgrade, being replaced by a 5 MP sensor for your selfie needs. As for the rear-facing unit, Sammy will reportedly stick to a 16 MP sensor with optical image stabilization like the one of the Note 4. Hopefully, the low-light photography will get an upgrade, too.
