Nokia’s First Android Tablet N1 Launching On January 7th in China
Nokia announced its first Android tablet last month – the Nokia N1. The N1 is the company’s first mobile product after Microsoft acquired its smartphone business earlier this year. As part of the agreement with Microsoft, Nokia cannot manufacture a mobile device until 2016, so the N1 will be manufactured by Foxconn. Last month, the company shared details about the device but didn’t give any firm date on when the device would launch. Finally, Nokia has shared details about the launch of the device for the Chinese market on its official Weibo account.
The company plans to launch the N1 tablet in the Chinese market on January 7th at a price of 1499 Yuan in China (around $249). Nokia is also running a contest where participants stand a chance to win 800 tickets and 6 VIP passes to the N1 launch event on January 7th and also be one of the first 24 people to try out the new Nokia N1 tablet on launch day. The event has been scheduled for 13:00 at Beijing Shangri La’s new Pavilion.
The Nokia N1 features a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 IPS display with a pixel density of 324PPI and comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The tablet is powered by the 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 chipset which comes with a quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and comes with a powerful PowerVR G6430 GPU. The device comes with 2GB LPDDR3 RAM and on-board storage of 32GB. The rear camera features 8MP resolution wile on the front you get a 5MP camera, both capable of shooting videos in 1080p resolution. The tablet is an impressive multimedia beast as well with twin stereo speakers and a Wolfson WM8958E DAC. There is a 5300mAh lithium polymer battery under the hood, which should provide decent battery stamina. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with Nokia’s Z launcher.
It comes with great connectivity options as well. There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac MIMO dual-band, Bluetooth 4.0, and it is also one of the first mobile devices to come with a Type-C micro-USB connector.
The dimensions of the tablet are 200.7 x 138.8 x 6.9mm and it weighs 318 grams. Even though the device isn’t being manufactured by Nokia itself, the build quality of the device is expected to be very impressive with a one-piece aluminum unibody design with surface anodization.
The device should be available in other markets around the world a few weeks after its release in China. Specific details aren’t yet available but we expect it to be available in stores by Q1 next year across most markets at a price of around $249.
