HTC One M8 Might Receive a Sense 7.0 Update By Q2 2015

A few weeks back, MaximusHD ROM developer LlabTooFeR shared the first screenshots of the HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop update with the world. The developer is back again with some fresh info on HTC’s update plans for the One M8. In a recenttweet, the developer confirmed that HTC will be rolling out the HTC Sense 7.0 update for the One M8 smartphone next year.

Although no concrete information had been available so far, many of us were expecting to see an HTC Sense 7.0 upgrade with the Android Lollipop update for the One M8 and One M7. But this new information from LlabTooFeR dashes all hopes of a Sense upgrade anytime soon. He also mentioned that no model from HTC’s 2013 lineup is expected to receive the Sense 7.0 upgrade next year, which means the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is likely to be the last major update for the HTC One M7. Since the device isn’t expected to be updated to the latest version of Sense, it doesn’t seem like the company will be releasing any major updates for the smartphone after the Lollipop update early next year.

HTC is reportedly readying the Sense 7.0 version for its ‘Hima’ flagship smartphone scheduled to release early next year. The HTC One M8 and perhaps a few other 2014 HTC smartphones are in line to receive the upgrade, although only by May or June next year. This does make a lot of sense though, as HTC has generally debut the latest version of HTC Sense with their annual flagship devices. Since the Hima is rumored to arrive around MWC, the device will enjoy exclusivity with the Sense 7.0 UI for around 3-4 months after its launch.

Meanwhile, the HTC One M7 and One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop update will arrive with HTC Sense 6.0 version, so no major changes to Sense can expected apart from the updated UI designed around the new Material Design guidelines by Google for all Android 5.0 Lollipop devices.
