Motorola Sending out Invites to Droid Turbo Soak Tests, It Could Be Android 5.0 Lollipop

Back in October, Motorola and Verizon announced a new member of the Droid family. It’s called Droid Turbo, is one of the most powerful handsets around, and it comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Now we hear that Motorola is sending out invitations to Droid Turbo owners, asking them to test a new software release.

The folks at Droid Life, have received the below screenshot from one of their readers. As you can see, it’s an email from Motorola Feedback Network which invites the Droid Turbo owners to “participate in an early preview of a new software release.” As you may know already, the members of the Motorola Feedback Network are able to test unreleased software in order provide feedback over potential bugs and issues. In this way, Motorola can test new software updates on a small number of phones before making the update available for everyone else.

Unfortunately, the soak test invitation for Droid Turbo doesn’t mention whether the new firmware is Android 5.0 Lollipop-based. Anyway, the email contains a link that will redirect you to a survey about current software of your device (21.44.8). I remind you that the 21.44.8 OTA update was released for Droid Turbo back in December and it brought VoLTE and Android Calling 1.0 support. Since this software version is mentioned in the survey, we are wondering whether the “new software release” it’s just a bug fixer for VoLTE.

For what it’s worth, Motorola has already rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Moto X 2014, Moto G 2014, and Moto G 2013. The phone maker is known for delivering quick software updates, therefore the soak tests might be about Lollipop after all.
