Acer Liquid Jade S Affordable Phablet Now Official With a 64-bit SoC

Acer isn’t a major player in the Android smartphone market but the company still does launch a few interesting devices every now and then. The latest addition to Acer’s limited lineup of smartphones is the Liquid Jade S which is part of Acer’s Liquid Jade series. The company had launched the Liquid Jade and Liquid E700 recently, and now haslaunched its first 64-bit smartphone in the Liquid Jade S.
The Acer Liquid Jade S comes with a Mediatek MT6752M SoC with 1.5GHz octa-core processor and a Mali T760 GPU. This is one of Mediatek’s newest SoCs and comes with 64-bit architecture support and also features LTE Cat.4 connectivity with support for maximum download speeds of 150Mbps. The display uses a 5 inch 1280 x 720 HD panel with a pixel density of around 294PPI. There is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, which can thankfully be expanded further with the microSD card slot provided. The rear camera is pretty impressive for a mid-range device as it comes with a 13MP sensor with an f1.8 aperture lens with fun voice based capture and Bright Magic technology to improve low-light performance. You can snap a photo with the rear camera by simply saying “Cheese” and “Selfie” to take a selfie with the 5MP front-facing camera. A 2300mAh battery is also on-board. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n/ and LTE 4G with dual-SIM standby support. The device ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and we would say it doesn’t seem very likely that the device will see an Android 5.0 Lollipop update anytime soon.
Acer also seems to have added dts-HD premium sound technology to the loudspeaker on the device, which is positioned at the back strangely. Many new devices have front-facing speakers now so the sound doesn’t get muffled when you place the phone on its back. Unfortunately Acer has decided to ignore that completely.
Apart from the hardware specs, the thin profile of the device is also pretty impressive. The Liquid Jade S is only 7.78mm thin and weighs just 116 grams. Other than that, the design isn’t particularly impressive, a trait it shares with all its siblings in fact. Acer has tried to spice up the design a bit though, with the use of a textured back on the device. But as we have seen in the past, a textured back doesn’t really add much to the overall design appeal of a device. Nonetheless, it should still be a pretty good option for anyone looking at a mid-range phablet in a budget. The device goes on sale in Taiwan on December 18th at a price of TWD 6,990 ($224). It is also expected to be launched soon in the Indian market, and is already listed on Acer’s official Indian website.
