Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 Should Arrive Soon

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 Should Arrive Soon

Gentlemen, ready your devices as the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 is about to show up. Early today,Google uploaded Android 5.0.1 Release 1 Lollipop code to AOSPA, which is a clear sign that the update is about to roll out.
Furthermore, the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop factory images have been made available for Nexus 7 2013 WiFi, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10. You can find out more about the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop factory images for Nexus 7, 9, and 10 here,here, and here, respectively. At the moment, only the three aforementioned Nexus devices have received factory images for the new release.
As I was mentioning above, this is a clear sign that the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and other supported devices is just around the corner. Anyway, for the time being there haven’t been any reports of the Android 5.0.1 OTA update hitting any devices. Besides that, there were some voices saying that Android 5.0.1 might only be tablet-specific, but in my opinion, it’s very unlikely.
There have been a lot of Nexus 5 users complaining about various bugs such as battery drains, so the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update should be able to fix many of them. Honestly, I haven’t experienced any major bugs in Android 5.0 Lollipop on my Nexus 5. More than that, I get about 3-4 extra hours of battery life.
Even though Android 5.0.1 is just a minor update, you would definitely want to have it installed on your device. Anyway, it’s advisable to wait until the OTA update is released rather than flash the factory image. Even though it’s it’s not that complicated to adb side load it, all the data stored on your device will be lost during the procedure. It’s true there’s a workaround that allows you to keep your data, but it doesn’t work for all devices. All you need to do is open the flash-all.bat script with a text editor and delete the “-w” ADB flag from the file.
As usual, the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 will be rolled out in stages, which means that it will not hit all devices in the same time and that some users will have to wait longer than others. You probably know already, that once your device becomes eligible to receive the new firmware you should be able to see a software update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, choose ‘Download now’, wait until the download is completed, then select ‘Install now’. Your device should reboot and install the new firmware. In case the system update notification failed to appear, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now. Oh, and don’t forget to use a WiFi network while downloading the update file or else you might damage your data plan.
I remind you that Lollipop is the biggest update Android has received so far. It arrives with lost of new features and improves the overall Android experience.
Android 5.0 introduces a new design philosophy called Material Design, which aims to make Android more intuitive with the help of realistic 3D effects and shadows. The update also brings better battery statistics and battery saver mode, allowing you to see how much time you have left until you need to recharge your phone or tablet, or how much time it’s left until the battery is full.
Lollipop also comes with a revamped Notifications Panel and introduces lock screen notifications. You can also choose which apps push notifications to the lock screen and the level of privacy for the said notifications. In the Quick Settings area there are a new shortcuts for Flashlight at Screen Cast and new toggles are added if you use certain options such as WiFi Hotspot.
Android 5.0 Lollipop also comes with security improvements and a new feature called Smart Lock. It instructs the device to remove the lock screen when you are connected to a “trusted device” or if you are in a “trusted place.” It also arrives with performance improvements as the obsolete Dalvik runtime has been replaced with ART (Android Runtime).
