Best Pebble Smartwatch apps

We have labeled the Pebble as the best smart watch around for multiple reason. It has an amazing battery life, it’s reasonably sized, supports multiple platforms and does everything you need it o do in a simple manner. No bells, whistles or fanfare. But no device makes it on its own. Every wearable needs good third-party support.

While we are still hoping for more support, the Pebble Smartwatch definitely has a good list of applications to choose from. I have been using a Pebble for quite some time now, and have a list of favorite apps I simply can’t live without. Let’s take a look at them.

Most of these can be found by simply searching the Pebble app store. For the few that are not there I will provide a link.

Dashboard for Pebble

This is a pretty cool app that allows you to control certain features of your phone straight from your Pebble watch. You can do things like toggle WiFi and bluetooth, turn on the hotspot feature or even find your phone (if you misplace it). I can no longer live without this app.

Dislock

Dislock is one of the apps I can no longer live without. This is because I am a firm believer in saving the precious seconds it takes me to unlock a smartphone with a PIN, password or whatever you may use. I also had some bad times when I lost my phones, though. Never again!

In a nutshell, Dislock allows you to bypass your PIN or password when the watch is connected. When disconnected, the app will simply force the device to start asking for the security credentials again.

In addition, the app allows you to set other bluetooth devices and WiFi networks as “trusted devices”. When connected to those, you can also bypass the password.

Yelp!

Just in case you have been living under a rock, Yelp is a service that let’s you discover, search and rate businesses within your vicinity. The Yelp Pebble app won’t give you full access, like the full mobile app would, but you get some nifty access to the popular service.

You can quickly search for businesses around you, and some reviews are also accessible. You can also shake the watch to pull up a random suggestion, just in case you are feeling adventurous.

Foursquare

While you are into the whole local business thing, why not check out the Foursquare app for Pebble? The app allows you to easily check into wherever you may be. It uses the phone’s location services and offers suggestions on places that may be near you.

PebbleBucks

Frequent Starbucks customers will need to download this app. After all, there is a Starbucks everywhere, and this service will allow you to surprise cute baristas all over the country.

The idea is simply – PebbleBucks can access your Starbucks account and give you information on account credit. The fun part comes when you want to pay, though, which you can totally do with the PebbleBucks app. The app displays a barcode on your watch, which Starbucks clerks can then scan in order to process payments.

PayPal

I am a very frequent PayPal user, and many businesses around the USA now accept PayPal payments. I still didn’t use PayPal much for paying in-store… until I got the Pebble Smartwatch.

The Pebble Smartwatch app makes paying with PayPal a breeze. All you need to do is log into your account (beforehand) and you can pull off a QR code. The cashier can scan it and the rest is no issue.

Domino’s Pizza Tracker

Those of you who have ordered Domino’s Pizza via the app or browser will surely know what the company’s tracker is like. It simply tells you in what stage your order is, and the Pebble app does exactly the same.

Want to know if your Pizza is on its way yet? Just get this companion app and make an order from the smartphone app. The tracker will keep you updated.

Pebblis: a Tetris clone

There is a good list of Pebble games, most of which are less than fun. The interface and form factor is simply not the best for gaming. I must say there is one Pebble game I love, though – Pebblis. Pebblis is pretty much a Tetris clone.

Is there anything not to like here? It works as a watch face, but it’s a super fun game, despite the workarounds.

PebbGPS

Need directions somewhere? No longer is there a need to pull out your smartphone. You can get maps and navigation information straight from your wrist with PebbGPS. Pretty cool, if you ask me. I use it from time to time and must say it works like a charm.

Taller: my favorite watch face

Looking for a good watch face? There are very complex and informative ones out there, but I am much more of a simple guy. This is why my favorite watch face is ‘Taller’. You simply get elongated numbers telling you the time, separated by the date. Pretty neat.
