Dell launches waterproof, rugged laptops starting at Rs 2.3 lakh

NEW DELHI: PC and mobile devices maker Dell has launched two new ruggedized devices - Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme notebook and Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme convertible notebooks in the Indian market. The company is targeting customers who require sturdy machines for ruggedized work environments with the two notebooks.
Dell Latitude Rugged Extreme devices can be operated in extreme conditions such as dust, moisture, drops, vibration, extreme temperatures and other such conditions, in fields such as military service, manufacturing, construction, and heavy industries, as per the company.
According to Dell, Latitude Rugged Extreme notebooks are independently tested to military standards including drops up to six feet, as well as ingress protection, emissions and hazardous materials certifications by a third-party testing facility.
The devices come with pogo-pin docking, a customizable RGB keyboard, native serial ports, a privacy shutter on the webcam and stealth mode. These devices also enable connectivity with support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi, mobile broadband and discrete GPS.
The Dell Latitude Rugged come with remote management capability including Intel vPro technology for efficient out-of-band management. These also offer data protection and encryption features including TPM 1.2, Dell Data Protection, Encryption and ControlVault advanced authentication.
Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme comes with the choice of fourth-generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 dual-core processors, up to 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L RAM, integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 (i3/i5) or Intel HD Graphics 5000 (i7) graphics, 11.6-inch HD (1366x768p) 16:9 Direct-View outdoor-readable display with resistive multi-touch display, 128GB, 256GB or 512GB mSATA mobility solid state drives (Optional 256GB mSATA SED SSD), 4-cell (58 Whr) lithium-ion battery (Optional 4-cell (51 Whr) long life cycle lithium-ion battery), high-quality speaker, integrated noise-reducing array microphones, stereo headphone/microphone combo jack, Optional integrated FHD video front webcam with privacy shutter, available 8MP rear camera with LED flash.

Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme will be available at a starting price of Rs 2,39,999 (excluding local taxes) and Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme will be available at a starting price of Rs 2,29,999 (excluding local taxes).
