Small Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Rolling Out from Verizon

Verizon has announced that their version of Samsung Galaxy S5 is getting a brand new Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update. This is a small firmware update and it is not the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, which should be ready for a January 2015 launch.

There aren’t too many new changes added in this release, as most probably Verizon has probably already started to test the Android 5.0 Lollipop and we will soon receive news on its possible official launch. Up until then you should flash this new Android 4.4.4 KitKat build.

The KTU84P.G900VVrU1ANK2 Android 4.4.4 build comes with bug fixes and it replaces the Isis Mobile Wallet to Softcard as the former name resembles the acronym now used by a jihadist rebel group. There are no other major changes in this new firmware, but you’re free to tell us in comments if you can find some new features worth mentioning after testing the G900VVRU1ANK2 firmware.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is being rolled out in phases for the Galaxy S5 by Verizon and it will not hit all units at the same time. However, before the end of this year all the Verizon Galaxy S5 users will receive the new firmware files. The update is available through OTA (over-the-air) and most probably it will soon be pushed through Samsung KIES, too.

When the update notification arrives on your Verizon Galaxy S5 you should read the changelog and then simply confirm the Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware update installation. Note that this new release is a small Android 4.4.4 build and it should be installed in under ten minutes. If your Galaxy S5 hasn’t received the new update notification, then you can go to Settings> More> About Phone> Software menu and see if there are any new KitKat firmware files ready for download.

Keep in mind that this Android 4.4.4 update will be released only for stock Verizon Galaxy S5 devices and you should install it if you want to be one of the first users to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in 2015, as Samsung has already pushed the Lollipop build for the International Galaxy S5.
