Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10 Now Available

The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10 is now available for download. About two weeks ago, the Nexus tablets were the first to receive the new update, followed a week later by Nexus 4 and Nexus 6. The Android 5.0.1 update for Nexus 5 was issued a couple of days ago.

If you still haven’t received the Android 5.0.1 update on your device you will be able to find links to tutorials that will teach you how to manually update your Nexus device with the latest Android firmware. The procedure is fairly easy and the update will be applied using the OTA ZIP files and you will also be able to keep your data intact.

As you may know already the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10 is just a minor update, so you shouldn’t get your expectations too high. Anyway, it will fix some annoying bugs and improve the overall system performance.

Lollipop is the most major update Google’s Android has received since it’s debut. It’s even bigger than the jump from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich. It came with a new design philosophy called Material Design which is more fluid and aims to make everything more intuitive with the help of realistic 3D effects and shadows. You were also able to enjoy battery saver mode and improved battery statistics which show how much time you have left until the battery is empty or how much time left until full when the charger is plugged in.

Android 5.0 also brought a revamped Notifications Panel and an enhanced Quick Settings area. The latter one introduced new toggles such as Flashlight and Cast screen, while using certain options will add a shortcut in Quick Settings. For the first time in Android, Lollipop brings lock screen notifications.

The update also brought multi-user support for phones, improved security and Smart Lock. Smart Lock allows you to instruct your phone or tablet to automatically remove lock screen security while being connected to a “trusted device” or while being in a “trusted place”. Lollipop also replaced the obsolete Dalvik runtime with ART (Android Runtime).

Bugs are common for major software updates and Android 5.0 Lollipop makes no exception. While some Nexus 5 owners have complained about battery drains after updating to Lollipop, the Nexus 4 had a laggy Phone app. There have also been reports of bad stability for Nexus 7 WiFi network connection. Hopefully, all these will be addressed when you will update from Android 5.0 to Android 5.0.1.

The new Android 5.0.1 update has build number LRX22C. The factory image for all the aforementioned devices can be downloaded from Google’s developer’s website here.

As always, the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10 is being rolled out in phases, which means that some users are still unable to download and install the new firmware. The OTA roll out is the same as usual: once your Nexus device becomes eligible to receive the update, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. You can also perform a manual check under Settings > About device > Software updates > Check now. If the update is still nowhere to be found, you should be able to update your device using the OTA ZIP files.
