HTC One M9 Release Date, Specs, and Rumors Round-up

We are getting close to the HTC One M9 release date and it’s about time to see what we should expect from the next-gen flagship smartphone of the Taiwan-based company. A lot of things have been said about the HTC One M9 (aka Hima) over the past few months, but only a handful of them come from reliable sources and only some should be believed.

We’ve heard a lot of possible HTC One M9 release dates in the past couple of months, but now we believe we know when the smartphone will be introduced. Not long ago, HTC has sent out invitations for a press event held March 1st in Barcelona. It’s strongly believe this is where the One M8 follow-up will be introduced to the public. I remind you that Mobile World Congress 2015 will open its gates March 2nd in Spain’s capital city. It’s not uncommon to see phone makers scheduling events one day before important tech fairs, as they attempt to attract as much attention to their new products as possible.

A couple of days ago we saw the first leaked photos picturing the HTC One M9. Good news, guys, the device is just as good-looking as its predecessor. It still has a metallic constructions and it continues the design philosophy that made the One M8 one of the most beautiful smartphones in 2014. Anyway, the leaked photos might show just a Hima prototype hidden in an M8 chassis, even though Bloomberg reported that the One M9 will be a lot like its predecessor in terms of design and size. It seems though that M9 will have narrower lateral screen bezels, but the same large bezel at the bottom with HTC logo on it.

Early rumors have suggested that One M9 might arrive with a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen in order to allow HTC’s flagship to compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G3. It seems though that, after all, One M9 might arrive with a not-so-impressive 5-inch Full HD screen.

The technical specifications of the HTC One M9 should be similar to what we also expect from other flagship smartphones that will debut in the first half of 2015. You will most likely get 3 GB of RAM and Qualcomm’s 64-bit octo-core Snapdragon 801 chipset with quad-core Cortex A57 CPU + quad-core Cortex A53 CPU and Adreno 430 GPU.

Good news, everyone, many rumors are suggesting that HTC is planning to upgrade the main camera of their next flagship. As you may know already, One M8 arrived with a Dual 4 MP UltraPixel camera on its back, which failed to put any pressure on its main rivals such as Xperia Z3, LG G3, or Galaxy S5. Sources in the industry say that Hima could integrate a 20.7 MP primary shooter. Of course, features such as optical image stabilization and 4K video recording support are to be expected, too. As for the user-facing camera we’ve heard two plausible scenarios: it might either be a 4 MP UltraPixel camera that should provide good performance in low light conditions, or a 13 MP user-facing shooter similar to Desire Eye’s setup.

HTC’s One phones were also known for their sound quality and, so far, the Taiwanese company has teamed-up with Beats. A few early reports have suggested that HTC may partner with Bose this time. Probably because Apple recently acquired Beats? Who knows?

There’s no longer a mystery that HTC One M9 will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Of course, it will have HTC’s Sense UI on top of it, which will most likely get updated to version 7.0. What software features should we expect from Sense 7.0? It’s a bit too early to tell.
