The Samsung Galaxy S6 release date is getting closer, so we thought it’s about time to do a recap of the specs and rumors that surfaced online about Sammy’s next-gen flagship over the past months. As we got closer to the Samsung Galaxy S6 release date, we’ve got more details about the device from reliable sources, therefore we can already paint a complete image of what to expect from the device.

Last year, various sources claimed that because of Galaxy S5’s below-expectation sales the South Korean phone maker will introduce the Galaxy S6 in January 2015 at Consumers Electronics Show. We haven’t seen the highly-anticipated smartphone at the Las Vegas-based tech fair, but we should get to see it soon enough. The latest reports are saying that the Samsung Galaxy S6 release date has been set March 2nd, when Mobile World Congress 2015 will open its gates. It looks like the device might hit the market sometime late March or early April.

Even though it was rumored that the Galaxy S5 flagship would get a Quad HD screen, Samsung has equipped it with a Full HD Super AMOLED display. They eventually equipped the LTE-A variant for Korea with a 1440p display, but the rest of the world got Full HD units. All the evidence is showing that Galaxy S6 will feature a Quad HD resolution display with Super AMOLED technology. As usual, Samsung Galaxy S6 might be offered in two processing variants. One underpinned by Qualcomm’s octo-core 810 chipset with quad-core Cortex A57 CPU and quad-core Cortex A53 CPU with 64-bit support and Adreno 430 GPU and the other powered by Samsung’s new 64-bit-enabled Exynos 7420 processor. A recent report said that Samsung could drop the Snapdragon 810 unit because of overheating issues.

The connectivity features of Samsung Galaxy S6 should include LTE-A Cat 9, Bluetooth 4.1, infra red port, NFC, WiFi ac, heart rate monitor, and microUSB 3.0. The handset might also arrive with wireless charging support and fast-charge capabilities.

Samsung is also rumored to have upgraded the main camera of the Galaxy S6. The rumor mill talks of a 20 MP sensor with optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus, and support for 4K video recording. The user-facing camera might also get upgraded with a 5 MP sensor for your selfie needs.

Of course, Samsung Galaxy S6 will also arrive with a fingerprint sensor, just like the Galaxy S5 and other Galaxy phones did last year. It seems though that the South Koreans are planning to implement a new touch-based fingerprint scanner to replace the swipe-based sensor used so far for their phones.

We heard a while ago that Samsung Galaxy S6 will be redesigned from scratch this being one of the reasons why it’s known internally as Project Zero. Early reports have talked of a metallic Galaxy S6, while recent ones said it might have a glass body like the one of the Xperia Z flagships.
