Leaked document suggests Xiaomi Mi 5 may come with NFC support: Specifications and features
In the past couple of weeks, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Mi 5, has been subjected to a lot of leaks. Right from leaked specifications via benchmark results, front panel photos and press renders, we’ve seen them all. Now, a leaked document reveals that the Mi 5 could also come equipped with an NFC chip.
While the Mi 3 and Mi 2A already featured an NFC port, the company found out that not a lot of people actually use it. It had dropped NFC support feature from its Mi 4 smartphone. However, Xiaomi seems to be taking another shot at NFC with the latest Mi 5.
The leaked document comes from China UnionPay, which as listed 32 smartphones that are compatible with its mobile payment service (dubbed as Cloud Lightening Pay). Among the list of smartphones, the yet to be released Mi 5 is also present, which could be enough hint that the smartphone could come equipped with NFC connectivity option.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications and features: Based on the leaks, the Mi 5 is expected to feature a 5-inch full HD display. Some reports also point to a Mi 5 Plus with a slightly larger 5.2-inch QHD display. Under the hood, the Mi 5 could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
In terms of camera, it could feature a 16-megapixel rear snapper with LED flash and an 8-megapixel selfie unit. On the software front, the Mi 5 might run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 7. It is expected to come with an all-metal build and a physical home button on the front that doubles as a print scanner. As this piece of information comes from a leak, we’ll have to wait until January 21 when Xiaomi officially unveils the smartphone.
