Android 4.4.4 Update for Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra to Be Rolled out Soon

Well, folks, the Android 4.4.4 update for Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra is set to be rolled out soon. In fact, the Xperia Blog reports that the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Android 4.4.4 update is already rolling to users in several countries, including Russia, Italy and Indonesia.

The Android 4.4.4 update for Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has build number 14.4.A.0.108. The aforementioned source also mentions that the same build version received certification for both Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, which means that the Android 4.4.4 update shouldn’t be too far away.

The three aforementioned Xperia devices, were still rocking Android 4.4.2, but the Android 4.4.4 update will also patch the improvements brought by Android 4.4.3. While Android 4.4.4 only brought minor security improvements, Android 4.4.3 arrive with a new design for the Phone Dialer app with card-based interface and new color scheme for the dialer itself, and a slightly revised People app.

Just like any other software update, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Android 4.4.4 update is being rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. Once your terminal will become eligible to receive the new firmware, you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. If the system update notification fails to show up, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Update now.

There’s no mention on when the new firmware will be released in the States, but they usually arrive a few weeks later in North America.

We don’t know the size of the Android 4.4.4 update file, but it could exceed 200 MB, therefore it’s recommended to use a stable WiFi connection while downloading it to avoid unwanted data charges.
