Nokia X2 Announced: Jelly Bean and Low-end Specs for Only €99

You probably are aware of the fact that Microsoft purchased Nokia a while ago. Well, instead of focusing on increasing Windows Phone’s market share, Nokia released a successor to the Nokia X. It’s called Nokia X2 and as you’ve already guessed it’s aimed at the lower end of the market.

The Nokia X was officially introduced in February and released on the market in March, so I didn’t really need a successor right now. Well, the Finns though it would be cool to release the Nokia X2 now even though the differences in this newer version aren’t major.

Hardware-wise, the Nokia X2 brings a slightly larger 4.3-inch display with the same 480 x 800 resolution, the RAM amount has been increased from 512 MB to 1 GB, while the processing tasks are handled by a Snapdragon 200 SoC with dual-core 1.2 Cortex A7 CPU and Adreno 302 GPU. You’ll also get 4 GB of internal storage expandable using microSD cards (up to 32 GB), 5 MP rear-facing shooter with HD video recording support, and a VGA user-facing cam.

Unlike previous Nokia X models, the new X2 has a Home button which aims to enhance navigation between apps. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, but you would hardly recognize the Android under the heavily customized skin applied by Nokia. There’s no doubt that the interface resembles Windows Phone and the sad news is that you won’t have access to Google Play Store. You can enjoy a selection of Nokia apps along with 15 GB of OneDrive storage courtesy of Microsoft.

The best thing about the new Nokia X2 is the price: the smartphone only costs €99 ($168 USD). The device is already available in select countries in green, orange, and black body colors. The Finland-based phone maker also promised to make a white and a matte gray model available at a later date
