Users on XDA Developers forum are reporting that a new Sony Xperia Z2 Android 4.4.2 update is now available for download, so if you happen to own this particular handset you should keep an eye on the notification bar.
Because the Sony Xperia Z2 launched with Android 4.4.2 out of the box, all the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar icons, cloud printing, color emoji support, immersive mode, or full screen album art in the lock screen were pre-loaded in the system. The new firmware update brings no noticeable changes and we are most likely looking at stability improvements and bug fixes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include the apps to SD card feature. The new Android 4.4.2 update for Sony Xperia Z2 has build number 17.1.2.A.0.314.
Furthermore, it looks like there’s no way to root your Xperia Z2 on Android 4.4.2 17.1.2.A.0.314 at the moment, so you may want to hold fire on updating right now.
The Xperia Update Checker mentions that the new update is currently available for the D6503 LTE variant of the Sony Xperia Z2, while users in Thailand, Russia, Kuwait, and Korea are already reporting that they have been able to download and install the new update. As usual, the new firmware is being rolled out in stages, which means that more regions will follow soon.
As you may know, once your Sony Xperia Z2 becomes eligible to receive the new 17.1.2.A.0.314 OTA update you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. Tap on it, choose download, then select install after the download has finished. If the system update notification is nowhere to be found, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.
