Canadian carrier Rogers has officially announced via Twitter that they are now rolling out the Sony Xperia Z1 Android 4.4.4 update to their users. Therefore, if you happen to own the Rogers Z1 model you would want to keep an eye on the notifications bar.
Because the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar icons, full screen movie and album art, new Location menu, cloud printing, color emoji support, or immersive mode were patched in the Android 4.4.2 update, the new Sony Xperia Z1 Android 4.4.4 update brings the new home launcher from Xperia Z2, adds TV Sideview app, improves performance, and makes the UI more stable.
As usual, Rogers is rolling out the Android 4.4.4 OTA update for Sony Xperia Z1 in phases, which means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. As you may know, once your Xperia Z1 becomes eligible to receive the new firmware, you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. Tap on it, choose download, wait until the download is completed, then select install now. The phone should reboot and install Android 4.4.4.
In case the Android 4.4.4 update notification failed to show up, you would also want to perform a manual check. In order to do so you must head to Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now. If this doesn’t work either, then it could mean that you need to wait a few more days.
Because the Android 4.4.4 OTA update for Sony Xperia Z1 may have a size of over 200 MB, we recommend you to download the update file using a stable WiFi network in order to avoid unwanted data charges.
Are there any Rogers Xperia Z1 reading this? Have you guys received the Android 4.4.4 OTA update on your phones? Please let us know in comments.
