The Taiwan-based phone maker has teased its mid-range Desire 816 and Desire 610 over the past couple of months and now they are coming to the US market. An HTC representative said that one of the reasons for the company’s downturn in 2013 performance was their lack of options for the customers in search of a mid-range handset. Well, the two aforementioned smartphones are in to compete in the mid-range segment. Both smartphones are already up for grabs on the European and Asian markets.
The HTC Desire 816 is the more powerful handset. The terminal is underpinned by a Snapdragon chipset based on four Krait cores clocked at 1.6 GHz paired with 1.5 GB of RAM. If you are looking for a smartphone with a bigger display, the Desire 816 could fit your needs, as it packs a 5.5-inch screen with 1280 x 720 resolution. It also arrives with 8 GB of internal storage and it will allow you to expand it with up to 128 GB via microSD cards. On the back of the handset you will be able to find a 13 MP shooter which doesn’t feature the UltraPixel technology found in the One M8 flagship.
On the other hand, the Desire 610 will most likely be the target of the customers in search of a budget device. Anyway, its technical specifications are at least decent. Desire 610 arrives with a 4.7-inch display with 854 x 480 resolution, is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, and sports 1 GB of RAM. It also packs 8 GB of native storage and a rear-facing 8 MP camera capable of recording 1080p videos.
Both the Desire 816 and Desire 610 arrive with BoomSound speakers which will definitely please the audiophiles. The terminals run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, customized with HTC’s proprietary Sense 6 UI with BlinkFeed. It seems that Virgin Mobile will be the first carrier to land the two mid-range smartphones, but we are confident that other US carriers will have them in their portfolios, too.
